One of the biggest industries in America is weight loss. What’s the next big diet, the next slimming super food, best new workout method? All in hopes of losing those lb's. It's constantly shoved in our faces. Online, tv, magazines, billboards, movies.
I often get questions about the best diets, or detox.
The most frustrating part is often it’s for weight loss alone. For vanity, acceptance, male attention, female attention, for self worth.
What seems to have been forgotten is HEALTH.
Holding excess weight is a sign that something in the body has been thrown off balance. Instead of having everyone seeking the next miracle to lose 10lbs in a week how about everyone look for the solution to why their health is deteriorating? The fact that they have less and less energy, can’t sleep well, constantly face cravings, are unhappy in life, can’t go up stairs without being out of breath, get a gut ache every time they eat, have insatiable hunger…
By dealing with the underlying health issues in time (not a miracle week) your body will find its balance and healthy weight. As humans we aren’t meant to be overweight, our bodies don’t want to hold on to a large amount of extra fat. There’s always a reason for it. (We also aren’t necessarily meant to be rail thin or have nearly no body fat. Meaning to get that way may entail doing some not so healthy things.)
The thing about this is it takes TIME. In a society where we need instant gratification this isn’t easy to truly grasp. But after years and years of abuse how do we expect to heal ourselves instantly?
It's important think beyond just the weight loss. Why are you holding on to it in the first place and how can THAT be solved?
As a health practitioner I have to tell you, I’m not a miracle worker. I don’t have the magic answer that will work for every human being.
We are unique individuals coming from different backgrounds, and with different habits. The solutions are not always the same.
I am a health detective. I care. I will listen, I will search, I will research, I will guide, I will share my knowledge and I will do whatever I can to figure out why you are not your most optimal self.
We all have some vanity, largely because of our culture, but don’t give in to making that what defines your happiness. Strive for more. Strive for vitality and for health.
Patience. With patience you will achieve, and it will in the end be more permanent. A juice cleanse, shake diet, pill, detox, or fad anything is not realistically sustainable. Make this change real. Real and true solutions are often the slowest and most difficult, but they last a whole hell of a lot longer and feel a lot better when accomplished.
Next time you are tempted by that quick fix, ask yourself if you truly believe that thing will solve all of your problems. Check in with yourself about your health, how does your body feel? What are you actually trying to fix? And remember nothing beats eating high quality whole foods the majority of the time and moving regularly. It's not a miracle and it doesn't create sales, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work.

Let's all get our priorities straight and change the status quo!
PS. Now it's your turn! Does this make you uncomfortable? Have you thought about weight loss in this way before? As health gain? Tell me about it, even if you think I'm crazy ;)
